The Porte du Soleil region is fantastic for mountain bike holidays, whether you are interested in trails or road cycling. With the chair lifts open to get you on your way, there are many trails for all ability levels.

The Portes du Soleil region offers excellent routes for the beginner or family group mountain bike riders. With instant access to the Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz trails you are well placed to enjoy the best the mountains have to offer.

Mountain Bike trails on the Pleney, Morzine

The Pleney bubble car (just a minutes ride from the chalet apartment) takes you straight to the top of the Pleney where you can pick from a number of scenic and beginner mountain bike routes heading back into the centre of Morzine village or over into Les Gets. The routes are well marked and easy to follow and range from open grassy meadows to beatuiful pine tree lined routes. Dont forget to pack your camera to take some of these stunning views home.

Mountain Bike trails in Avoriaz and the rest of Portes du Soleil (Beginner trails)

Within 30 seconds ride from the chalet apartment, the Super Morzine bubble and adjoining chair takes you up to a beatiful scenic area on Super Morzine offering stunning views of the valley below and across to the resort of Avoriaz. Here, you can join gentle wide open trails winding slowly down into the Lindarets base. Some routes cross over the downhill section giving you a great chance to see expert mountain bikers hurtling down the mountain with no regard for personal safety. A great sight.

Once in the Lindaret base, you have access to a massive array of open routes and tree lined trails. Various lifts take you out of the Lindaret base and give you access to the whole of the Portes du Soleil region.

Once in Lindaret, be sure not to miss a lunch stop in the Village of the Goats which is full of wandering mountain goats fighting for your attention and sometimes your packed lunch. Always a big hit with children and adults alike. It's worthwile allowing some time to look around local shops or stop for an extended lunch whilst basking in the sun.

Further down from the goat village, you reach the beatiful lake Montriond, stunning emerald green in colour during the summer months and another perfect stop for lunch and relaxing. The far end of the lake has a section closed off and monitored by lifeguards for safe swimming. A perfect swimming spot surrounded by huge mountains ... paradise.

Safety and protection whilst on a mountain bike as a beginner

Some protection gear is recommended, especially a helmet which is probably the most valuable piece of equipment (other than a sound mountain bike of course). Helmets are available for hire in the local mountain bike stores, so it's not necessary to buy before you arrive. Zero suspension mountain bikes are fine for the more relaxed riding routes in and around Morzine and Les gets, although bikes with front suspension are recommended should you want to push yourself a little later in your stay.

Mountain Bike Hire

There are many shops close to our chalet apartment where you can hire quality full suspension/hardtail bikes.

Of course, if you prefer to bring out your own bikes, we can easily transport you and your bikes to and from Geneva airport. We also have a secure underground garage to keep them locked up and safe during the nights.
